Empty Nose Syndrome

The empty nose syndrome is used in otolaryngology. This syndrome is used for a

nose that has been crippled physiologically due to surgical reduction of the nose

turbinates. It often happens that the interior turbinates of the nose are crippled

during procedures like conchotomy or turbinectomy.

The main symptoms of the empty nose syndrome are chronic nasal dryness and

paradoxical obstruction. While the former often causes nasal pain and infections

the latter causes grogginess and dizziness. These symptoms often cause loss of

concentration in patients and clinical depression.

There has not been much research done in this area but this symptom can be

diagnosed and treated by experts. Treatment can be done surgically and non-

surgically and also through implants materials.
